We were contacted by Kristen in Wilson, NC, whom we have worked with before and she had a rescue that was coming right out of a kill shelter and going to LaMancha Animal Rescue in Coatesville, PA. LaMancha is a wonderful rescue located on a rural farm in PA that started out rescuing horses and grew to rescue all types of animals. They are a wonderful caring group and any animal taken there will either find a wonderful family or become one of the farm family. Either way it’s a wonderful life.
The dog’s name is Kenzie and she is about 45 lbs. She was found roaming in a not so nice part of Wilson and no one came to claim her at the shelter. She is such a love that the shelter staff kept postponing off putting her down. She was quiet and everyone there just loved her. Kenzie had been at the shelter for 1 week when LaMancha said they would take her. She just needed to get there as soon as possible. Mission Accomplished.
On Sunday, September 11th, Holly, a volunteer, and a friend of hers brought Kenzie to Raleigh-Durham international Airport in Raleigh, North Carolina where we met Kenzie for the first time.
Steve, Pam and our inflight volunteer Fire Chief Ron Early walked into TACAIR, and there she was. Kenzie acted like she’d know us forever. She’s friendly and can’t wait for someone to love.
After we presented Holly with a bag of gifts from our sponsor’s Plato Pet Treats and Smiling Dog Coffee, we walked Kenzie out to the plane where she couldn’t wait until to hop in and get going! After saying goodbye to Holly, we were off to Chester County Airport.
Kenzie was a great passenger she really seemed to enjoy flying. She snuggled up against Pam and was happy with her headset on. She was so relaxed that she fell asleep. Every now and then she’d wake up and look at Pam as if to say, “we good”? Pam would smile and give her more love and she’d go back to sleep.
Landing at Chester County is always an adventure! Coming in over the trees and landing on a hill that slopes down from the direction we landed, makes for an interesting landing, but Steve nailed it! Kenzie was glad to get out and use the airport’s “grass facilities”. Ray and Britney our favorite line crew were there to greet us.
We met Lori from LaMancha and she was excited to meet Kenzie. Kenzie who hasn’t met a person she didn’t like, was ecstatic to meet Lori. We said our goodbyes and giving Kenzie a little more love, she was off to LaMancha where a big open field just waiting for her to run in.
Steve, Pam and Ron had a wonderful lunch at the airport restaurant before heading back to Raleigh. It was another successful flight to save another amazing dog from being put down before her time.
Have a wonderful life sweet Kenzie!
